Bluewater Recycling Association Updates Acceptable Materials List

Updated Informational Flyer will be distributed in the coming days.

Huron Park-April 8, 2019

The Bluewater Recycling Association has made some minor changes to the materials accepted in the blue box program and encourages residents to review the informational flyer that will be coming in the mail shortly. Francis Veilleux, President of the Association highlights that "We need your help to include only materials that are actually recyclable and acceptable in the recycling containers." While the acceptable list has changed slightly, it reflects what the blue box program was designed to collect and what the marketplace is looking for today. The Association is essentially collecting the same scope of PPP (Printed Paper and Packaging) they always have, except for a handful of problematic materials that make up less than 1.5% of the entire waste stream. These materials are problematic because:

1) their properties make them a contaminant to everything else residents have worked hard to recycle

2) their general quantities are too low to sort and sell separately.

They include: Cartons, Non-Beverage Aluminum, Aerosol Containers, Plastic Paint Cans, and Small Items (under the size of 3 inches).

To stay well informed of the programs and services offered through the Bluewater Recycling Association, including information about these latest changes, you can visit www.bra.org. The most recent updates will also be highlighted through the company Blog. Residents can also access this information by downloading the Recycle Coach App (https://solutions.recyclecoach.com/) to their computer, smart phone or tablet. This App provides real-time communication on emergencies, delayed collections, events and more.
